I had the great pleasure of photographing the wedding of Nikki & Jamie two weeks ago in Aldenham. This was a medium sized church wedding, with a reception literally across the road, in a fantastic quiet village setting just outside of London.
For the ceremony I found the church (St. John the Baptist) very accommodating towards photography which is always a relief as some can be extremely strict. I was able to position myself near the pulpit which offered me excellent views of both the altar and the congregation, and allowed me crucially to capture the fronts of both bride and groom during the ceremony. This placed me in an ideal location for the signing of the register as well, and I managed to capture my favourite shot of the ceremony, which is of the bride kneeling down and speaking to her two children for the first time as a married woman.
The reception took place, quite literally, across the road at the Aldenham Social Club, which entailed the entire wedding party walking over at once (a refreshing change from everyone piling into cars and dashing off). The room had been decked out very tastefully and provided an ideal setting for the evening that followed.
One very notable part of the reception I should mention was the cake, baked by one of Nikki's friends. It took the shape of two minions (i.e. the true stars of the Despicable Me film series) dressed up like bride and groom which was very, very cool. Seemed a shame to have to cut it (and when they did, it was the 'groom' minion who fell under the knife!).
The reception was simply lovely, and packed full of notable events. The father-daughter and first dance were both beautiful moments, the speeches great fun (including a nod to myself from the groom, much appreciated!), the food (a BBQ buffet) delicious, and ambience spot on. I wish all the best to Nikki and Jamie in the future, a more in love couple would be hard to find!
