Portrait Review 2016

As I write this, 2016 is very much now over - where did the time go?! So as we look forward to the year ahead I wanted to post another blog about my year just gone by, this time about my portrait photography.

Over the past 12 busy months I feel I have grown as a portrait photographer and constantly been learning and developing, and very much look forward to all the adventures I'm going to have with great families in the coming year!  I have experimented with new editing styles, poses and and approaches to portrait photography, as well as kicking off the year with a significant investment into new equipment, and have been very happy with the results so far.

I offer portrait sessions both indoors using my portable home studio set up, or outdoors in lovely parks and woodland. I've found both worked particularly well this year, and am looking to further expand my portrait work in 2017.

I returned to the Mayfield Lavender Fields this year for a few shoots amongst the stunning lavender, and will certainly be returning there this summer. Keep an eye out for an announcement around July!

I've also utilised other woodland and parks around the Surrey/Sussex area to capture treasured memories for the families and couples who have used me. I love shooting outdoors as I love using elements of the environment for my models to interact with! Below are a few examples from last year, some of which were also part of my Christmas promotion this year:

I've taken my home studio set up to a number of houses this year too in order to capture family portraits in the comfort of people's homes! This set up is very simple (a background and two radio triggered lights) so fits into most living areas, but provides the versatility for an infinate number of background/theme changes and an impression of space not thought possible in the average living room. This worked quite well in the Christmas shoots as I could transport kids into winder wonderlands!

Now to highlight a few extra special people. Temi, Emmanuel and their family are also deserving of a mention in this review. These lovely guys have used me every year for four years, and it's been an honour to photograph them and their growing family from just the two of them in 2012 to the four of them today!

Of course, no review of a year would be complete with out mentioning my most photographed little model of the year, Harrison. He's big on Instagram (find him at @harrisons_way) and has become both a brand representative and brand enthusiast for a number of companies this year. It's been great fun photographing him on a number of different occasions in 2016, and his family is not afraid to let me experiment with locations leading to shoots in places like abandoned warehouses and disused railway lines! Here are some of my favourites from the last 12 months:

Please do contact me if you may be interested in a portrait shoot in 2017 - they really are a fantastic way to record irreplaceable memories of you and you family for years to come!
